Career Journeys in Philanthropy: A Grantmakers of Color Network Conversation

No two paths into philanthropy look the same. Some of us arrived by design, others by surprise. Many of us have been the only people of color in the room along the way.

The Grantmakers of Color Network invites you to kick off our 2026-2027 season with a virtual conversation about career journeys across philanthropy. Four leaders working in different roles, institutions, and career stages will share short stories from their professional paths. They will reflect on what drew them to this work, the moments that shaped them, how they found their leadership voice, and what keeps them hopeful.

You will also hear the story of our network, which has offered grantmakers of color across New England a space for peer support, learning, and connection since 2005. And you will get a first look at the gatherings we have planned for the year ahead.

Whether you are new to the field or have decades of experience, there is a seat for you. Come ready to connect, share, and learn from one another. We encourage cameras on, since part of the session includes small group conversation.

  • Phillip Gonzalez, President and CEO, MetroWest Health Foundation
  • Nadia Harden, Chief of Program, Evaluation, and Sustainability, New Commonwealth Fund
