Engaging Your Board in Fundraising in Uncertain Times

In today’s rapidly shifting political, social, and economic landscape, nonprofit boards must be more strategic, adaptive, and courageous in their fundraising efforts. In this interactive session, we will discuss approaches to equip board members with a clear understanding of how external forces—from the economy and political polarization to social justice movements and donor fatigue—are reshaping philanthropy.

Participants will explore practical strategies to:
  • strengthen donor trust and loyalty
  • engage new funding sources
  • confidently tell their organization’s story in a climate of increased scrutiny and competition
New development staff or practitioners needing a refresh will gain clarity on the board’s role in fundraising and actionable steps to drive impact in uncertain times.

Our Presenter:

David McGoy is a fundraising, governance and development consultant, trainer, advisor, and coach with over 30 years of experience in nonprofit management. As the founder and president of ASSIST Development Consulting, he partners with nonprofit leaders to develop and implement effective fundraising strategies, build capacity in their development departments, and increase board engagement in fundraising. As an interim development director over an eight-year period, he helped four organizations to increase their revenue by between 40% and 250%, and all were able to hire their first full-time development director. He has also surveyed and interviewed hundreds of CEOs and board members, trained and coached over 1,000 nonprofit professionals, and assessed and advised over 50 boards of directors on their fundraising and governance responsibilities. David teaches grant writing and fundraising as an adjunct professor at Adelphi University’s College of Education and Health Sciences and serves on the board of trustees of Richmond University Medical Center in his hometown of Staten Island, NY.
