The Development and Communications Officer is a full-time position reporting to the Executive Director. This individual will help design and execute the Development and Communications plans for our rare cancer research foundation. We are looking for a self-starter seeking immediate responsibilities in a flat and lean organizational structure. The candidate must be an outstanding writer with an understanding of how nonprofit Development works and who will help us tell our story in a way that increases engagement across our community of patients, families, researchers, and clinicians.
Responsibilities:
- Devising an overall strategy for targeting each audience through the appropriate channels
- Working with the Executive Director and Director of Research to fashion materials that convey the appropriate messages to each audience
- Developing and implementing a small- and medium-size donor strategy
- Coordinating with senior management on major donor development relations
- Organizing, maintaining, and analyzing donor and correspondence lists for both email (~4,000) and mail (~1,000)
- Drafting materials, posting social media messages, emailing research and fundraising updates, and mailing fundraising letters
- Managing and updating the foundation’s website and social media platforms
- Supporting internal and external fundraising events
- Presenting development and communications initiatives and performance to the Board of Directors
Qualifications:
- Self-starter seeking immediate responsibilities in a flat and lean organizational structure. Must be highly organized and detail oriented
- 2+ years of Development experience at a nonprofit organization
- Outstanding writing skills, ideally with experience in science or medical writing. Ability to make technical concepts accessible and inspiring to a lay audience
- Familiarity with CRM software (such as Salesforce)
- Proficiency across social media platforms
- Preference for:
- Experience with patient advocacy or disease research foundations
- Any personal link to adenoid cystic carcinoma
- Residence in the Boston area
- Full-time position, though part-time possible
Salary: $60,000-$90,000. Competitive depending upon qualifications
Working Conditions: Hybrid schedule currently. Substantial flexibility in work-from-home hours.
Start Date: November 2022
