The Development & Fundraising Specialist will support the fundraising operations of the YMCA of Metro North team, both at the association and branch levels. The Specialist will participate in all aspects of development: events, grants, annual campaigns, and major gifts. There will initially be a focus on events and grants. The Specialist manages multiple projects at once, from daily tasks to long-term strategy. This role will evolve alongside the Y’s long-term fundraising strategy.  This is a full-time role.

  • Project manager on fundraising events.
    1. Branch Membership events.
    2. Road races, Golf event, Annual Gala. 
    3. Branch fundraisers i.e. Spin-a-thons.
  • Grant research and writing.
    1. Delivery of results.
    2. Review and report of deliverables to funders.
  • Administrative support on projects and overall fundraising efforts.
  • Special project and initiative support, i.e. Annual Campaign, Staff Campaign, Member Donor Week, and the Capital Campaign. 
  • Other duties as assigned to support the mission of the Y.


  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in a related field is necessary, CRFE Certification is a plus.  
  • Commitment to the YMCA’s mission and work as a cause-driven organization.  Relationship builders who are good listeners and have the ability to articulate a concise message will be successful in this position.  
  • Significant knowledge of the service area is a plus
  • Strong analytical skills, self-motivated and action/goal-oriented and have experience working with and coordinating volunteers.  
  • Previous experience working in the non-profit sector. 
  • At least 2-4 years of relevant experience or experience in an administrative or leadership role with transferable skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build effective relationships.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; demonstrated experience communicating with a wide range of audiences and able to present key information in an engaging way in terms of both language and visual presentation.
  • Exceptional project and event management skills, extremely well-organized and strong attention to detail.
  • High degree of professionalism, customer service, and organizational skills with the ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Ability to work with evolving priorities and timelines.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet organizational deadlines.
  • A can-do and will-do attitude, i.e., no task is too high level nor too basic.
  • Proficient in Google applications (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Gmail) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Compensation: commensurate with experience.
