MMP is a statewide organization that partners with corporate, public and philanthropic entities to drive critical resources to a network of more than 370 mentoring and youth-serving organizations, representing more than 50,000 young people from Boston to Pittsfield.

Position Summary: 

MMP is seeking a talented and dynamic professional to join our team as the Director of Development. Reporting to and closely partnering with the President & CEO, the Director leads and implements fundraising and partnership efforts to sustain and grow MMP’s $2.5M annual budget and to build financial resources to support the field. With a targeted focus on fundraising and organizational advancement, the Director will also collaborate with other members of the senior management team as well as MMP’s Governing Board of Directors and key stakeholders to provide leadership of MMP’s external partnership efforts and help formulate overall strategy and direction for the organization. The Director of Development manages a Resource Development Coordinator. 

Position Requirements: 

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of demonstrated experience in resource development, fundraising operations, grant process, partnership development, external relations, and event planning experience
  • Exceptional verbal communication and strong writing skills
  • Experience working and communicating effectively in a team environment with diverse staff, volunteers, and various stakeholders
  • Excellent organizational skills and detail-oriented demonstrated by the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment 
  • Self-directed, able to work independently and function effectively in an entrepreneurial environment
  • Experience utilizing technology for fundraising and communication
  • Commitment to MMP’s mission and the impact of positive adult role models and relationships
  • Ability to work and connect with diverse communities, people, and partners, and a commitment to promoting inclusion in all practices and efforts
  • Experience in youth development, mentoring or other relevant social causes preferred
  •  BA/BS and/or graduate degree in a related field preferred or commensurate experience

Responsibilities: 

In strategic partnership with the CEO and with the implementation support of the Resource Development Associate:

Leadership

  • Evolve and utilize Development Strategy and Annual Plans to meet fundraising goals 
  • Support the CEO to influence and engage new and existing donors
  • Build and manage the Philanthropy Committee of Board of Directors; work with Committee to set goals and priorities, and implement strategy to achieve goals; solicit involvement of Board of Directors in fundraising activities
  • In partnership with the CEO, serve as one of the key external spokespeople with stakeholders, funders, and opinion leaders

Donor Relations

  • Further develop and execute the annual giving campaign
  • Identify individual donor prospects and manage donor stewardship of all institutional and individual supporters through regular interactions
  • Initiate, develop, and advance proposals to prospective donors

Grants Management

  • Manage grants process including collection and synthesis of data, development and completion of high-quality written proposals, tracking and reporting, and full communication with funders
  • Research potential grant opportunities and develop a yearly schedule of grant proposal, reporting, and letter of inquiry deadlines, tracking outcomes and updating the calendar on a regular basis

Development Operations

  • Provide leadership to maximize utilization of donor management system (Salsa CRM) and its capacity to support fulfillment of development goals of the organization, as well as other fundraising systems for events and peer-to-peer fundraising (GiveSmart, DonorDrive, and Crowdrise)
  • Develop and manage budgets for Development 

Events

  • Develop strategy and fully execute current and future event-related fundraising including Champions of Mentoring Breakfast, Rodman Ride for Kids, Boston Marathon team, Cheers to Mentoring reception, Falmouth Road Race, and donor hosted friendraisers

Partnership Management

  • Create partnership development strategy in collaboration with management team within the lens of fundraising
  • Establish new connections and partnerships that help move MMP forward in its resource development areas
  • Provide direction and support to key staff developing partnerships in communities across the state
  • Provide oversight to key partnerships that have fundraising and development focus and work in collaboration with Director of Communications and External Affairs on shared goals 

Additional Areas of Responsibility:

  • Serve as a member of the organization’s senior management team to help guide the overall direction and implementation of organization’s strategic goals
  • Promote the mission and goals of MMP and fully participate in setting and achieving the annual operating plan to achieve the goals
  • Participate in meetings, organizational functions, and community events necessary to perform job responsibilities and/or to represent MMP
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance relevant knowledge and skill sets
  • Participate in creating a more culturally responsive environment at MMP
