Overview:
Food For Free is hiring a Grants Manager to join the Development team. This new role will ensure that
all aspects of foundation, government and corporate grant writing, stewardship and long-term grants
planning are effectively and efficiently implemented. This role will identify potential supporters, write
proposals and reports and, with support of the Chief Development Officer, strategize the best
engagement opportunities for each funder. The role includes building, strengthening, and sustaining
effective working relationships with key stakeholders, including staff, current and prospective funders,
community partners and volunteers.

exempt position that is partially remote and partially in-person at Food For Free’s Inner Belt facility
(Somerville) and reports to the Chief Development Officer.

Responsibilities include:

● Lead all grant efforts, including writing and oversight of all grant applications to corporate,
foundation and government entities
● Lead cultivation efforts to research and identify available grant opportunities
● Oversee grant applications and all of their components – initiating, writing, compiling,
coordination of any staff contributors to the grant application and general oversight of the
application, submission and response to grantors
● Review funding opportunity terms and conditions, evaluate and coordinate all award
requirements, and set clear goals, timelines, and milestones throughout the process
● Manage the master calendar of grant submissions (both new and recurring), prospects and
funder reporting throughout the year
● Oversee stewardship program for foundations and other corporate & community partners,
including delivery of benefits of being a corporate and community partner, thoughtful
engagement and stewardship for each partner, and involvement of the CDO and CEO
● Work in collaboration with the Chief Financial Officer (or their designees) to ensure program
compliance with grants and special projects
● Maintain and develop reports and provide analytics on grant funding and trends
● Write blogs, annual report and other marketing materials in support of development initiatives
● Execute campaigns and engagement strategies for a large sustained base of annual individual
donors
● Assist with development activities as needed (e.g. events)
● Ensure that an equity lens and Food For Free’s core values are infused into all communications,
applications and reports

Required Qualifications:

● Five years professional experience in fundraising, grants writing or other relevant experience
● Knowledge of the principles and ethics of fundraising and emerging trends
● Direct experience in grant-writing; extraordinary writing skills required
● Familiarity with DonorPerfect or similar donor management software
● Flexible, ability to prioritize, adapt to change and shifting priorities and to work simultaneously
on a variety of complex projects
● Awareness of community needs and trends
● Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
● Must be able to work independently, use a high degree of judgment and make sound
independent decisions
● Experience handling confidential materials and information with discretion
● Collaborative team player

reliable access to fresh and nutritious food. We accomplish our mission through food rescue,
partnerships with schools, colleges, and traditional food organizations, as well as our own direct
service programs. In fiscal year 2022, Food For Free distributed more than eight million pounds of
nutritious food and reached more than 40,000 people throughout Eastern Massachusetts.

Schedule & Working Conditions
● This is an exempt, full-time salaried role that is partially in-person and partially remote.
Periodic evening & weekend commitments.

Compensation: Salary range begins at $55K
