About Finding Common Purpose:

Finding Common Purpose (FCP) is a national, non-partisan think tank that is advancing a new social contract between institutions and local residents by establishing community dashboards that commit to meeting basic needs and reducing inequities from cradle to end of life. FCP produces research and tools, creates narrative change, and supports cross-sector. place-based initiatives.

What is a Community Dashboard?

A northstar to align local residents and stakeholders from government, school districts, nonprofit service providers, foundations, and businesses around life outcomes to reduce inequities in a geographic area. Community dashboards are used to track and analyze data to inform policy and resource decisions, identify service gaps, monitor progress, and reinforce alignment, transparency, and accountability.

The Role

After 18 months of developing Finding Common Purpose, the initiative is seeking a project director for 20+ hours a week to move forward the day-to-day activities under the supervision of the founder, Andrew Wolk.   

The main responsibilities are as follows, but are not limited to::

  • Communications: Lead the continued development of FCP’s website, newsletter, and Salesforce CRM database. Raise the profile and celebrate the use of community dashboards through various communication channels both locally and nationally. As reports and tools are developed, identify the best media channels/platforms and lead efforts to promote them (i.e webinars).  

  • Research and Tools: Produce best-practice reports, case studies, tools, and other publications to advance the development and use of community dashboards. FCP has formed a partnership with the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s ReDesign Lab for co- publication. 

  • Project Management: Develop and monitor project plans for local community dashboard development and other day-to-day activities of Finding Common Purpose, including by not limited to:

    • Setting up systems and processes for FCP

    • Partnership management, including scheduling and preparing for meetings with partners

Qualifications & Experiences Desired:

  • Strongly aligned with mission and vision of the initiative

  • Excellent project leadership and management skills, with experience launching new initiatives, establishing and following work plans, ensuring work is being accomplished in a timely, high-quality manner, and regularly communicating with colleagues and partners

  • Communications, research, and publications experience

  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, and be a self-starter

  • Comfort with ambiguity and start-up atmosphere

  • Strategic thinker with problem-solving orientation; ability to take strategic ideas and operationalize them

  • Experience with creating research deliverables for external audiences 

  • Effective and persuasive communicator in oral and written formats

  • Experience with developing partnerships that lead to shared responsibilities and actions

  • Experience with and CRM (Salesforce) database a plus

  • Supervision experience a plus, as this position would work closely with research assistants 

  • Strong skills in using tools and technology to foster relationships and complete work (e.g., Google docs, Microsoft Office, Zoom and other virtual platforms, etc.)

Location & Salary:

Andrew Wolk is based in Boston, Massachusetts; the Project Director can be based anywhere in the United States. This contract role is approximately 20 hours a week, with an hourly rate in the range of $100-$200. The initial contract will be for 6 months, with review after 3 months to determine whether there is a good fit and both parties would like to continue. If mutually agreeable, there is the opportunity for this to become a salaried position with benefits.
