Fiscal Sponsorship

Philanthropy MA serves as a fiscal sponsor for a number of funders throughout the region.

The intent of fiscal sponsorship is to provide a 501(c)(3) charitable tax exempt status for the benefit of incorporated and unincorporated entities operating for charitable purposes. All programs and related activities must have alignment with Philanthropy MA’s mission, which is to promote the practice and expansion of effective and responsible philanthropy to improve the health and vitality of its region.

Your program must meet the following criteria to be considered eligible for the Philanthropy MA Fiscal Sponsor program:

  • Align with Philanthropy Massachusetts’ mission and strategies
  • Based in and serving Massachusetts communities
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
  • the initiative, program or organization is uniquely positioned to do what it does
  • Has a minimum annual budget of $50,000
  • First priority will be given to emerging grant making foundations or programs, donor collaboratives, or philanthropy-serving organizations or projects. Additional consideration will be given to emerging nonprofits or issue-specific programs or projects in subsectors (health, education, arts, etc.)
